Where does ”Fake News” come from
and where could it lead us?

We have heard a lot about “fake news” recently. US President, Donald Trump has drawn our attention to it regularly since his inauguration.

Having been born and brought up in the UK, I have found the concept of ”fake news” difficult to come to terms with. Do journalists really tell blatant lies and editors publish them in our news media as a matter of course? In my younger days (the 60’s and 70’s) I expected the news media to report the truth. After all, we in the UK have core values; our country has a Christian tradition! However, in recent years I have observed something different. Our Christian tradition have been replaced by “British Values”, perhaps so that we do not upset those of other traditions and religions who live in the UK? It has given rise to the phrase, “political correctness”. I have to admit I am not sure what “British Values” are, apart from perhaps a liking for fish and chips, and an inclination to be reserved and tolerant.

Realistically, we have long accepted that there are biases in the news media. But that is not the same as “fake news”, which is the propagation of untruth. My understanding is that young journalists are taught to present all sides of an argument and let the reader decide what he/she thinks: That is or was the standard.

However, todays news corporations embrace a secular humanist world view. Most appear to be against God, in particular the Christian (biblical) portrayal of God. They are geared toward a globalist agenda and they can make or break people. For example, Donald Trump: Destroying him appears to be CNN’s clear objective. I’m not talking about disagreeing with his aims and ideas, but vilifying him to the extent that in CNN’s eyes he can do nothing right.

I quote, from CNN Global Affairs Analyst, Max Boot: “All of Donald Trump’s beliefs are antithetical to the international liberal world order that the United States built after 1945, based on solidarity with democratic allies and free trade – both principles Trump is opposed to because he views our allies and our trading partners as rip off artists who are taking advantage of us. He is in a war of words with the Canadian Prime Minister while at the same time he is cosying up to the North Korean dictator who he has praised”.

This is an unapologetic acknowledgement, by CNN, that they are promoting a liberal world order and they believe Mr Trump is wrecking it.

In his book, “God’s Chaos Candidate: Donald J Trump and the American Unravelling”, Lance Wallnau, a well-known Christian leader in the USA, calls the President “a wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness”.

According to CBN News (USA Christian Media), Dr Wallnau says Trump is a “secular reformer” who wants to establish an environment where Christians can bring in “spiritual reformation”.

In the light of these statements, reflect on a quote from George Orwell, who died in 1950: “The further society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it. Trust is the New Hate Speech. During times of universal deceit telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act”.

There is clearly a battle raging between the promoters of a global world order and those who simply want to be able to read and listen to fair and truthful coverage of current events. We, in the USA and the UK, need to be careful not to reject our Christian heritage for something that is at best seriously less truthful, and at worst a deception.
