Do you know you are loved by God?
If you do not know that you are completely and utterly loved by God, it will have some seriously negative effects on your life as a Christian. God does not love you because you are a nice person or because you are lovable.............He does not love you because of what you may do in service for Him or self-sacrifice for others. God loves you because it is his nature and disposition to do so; it’s because He is love. It doesn’t depend in any way whatsoever on you. It certainly doesn’t depend on your performance, or what you think of yourself, or what other people may think of you.
God takes the initiative. He loves you because he wants to: It’s what he is like, and he is never going to change. When I started to see this it was such a relief, such a joy. It removed the need to impress Him or other people: I had nothing to prove anymore. It was a release to be myself, because I didn’t have to change in order to win God’s approval. God’s love is totally unconditional; it’s gives us freedom.
In fact, the Lord has a whole harvest of good things he wants us to experience, plus many, many projects he wants us to engage in with him. These will bring great joy and satisfaction, along with some hard work and a bit of suffering.
Our love for other people and our willing service to God is in direct proportion to how much we feel loved by Him. It’s the overflow from us when we are full and therefore have lots to give. This means it’s not a monumental effort, neither is it drudgery. Blessing and serving others is a joy and a pleasure (most of the time), when we ourselves know we are loved so overwhelmingly by God.
